Blood Transfusion Increases Mortality in Heart Attacks

i understand that the objection to blood transfusions by jehovah's witnesses is purely a scriptural one.

whether or not there are medical benefits to avoiding blood transfusions is, or should be, irrelevant.

however, for those who are not convinced by jw understanding of the scriptures in this regard, and those who don't believe either in the bible and/or in god, the fact that blood transfusion is associated with increased mortality in heart attacks may be of interest.. a systematic search of studies published between january 1, 1966, and march 31, 2012, was conducted using medline, embase, cinahl, scopus, web of science, and cochrane central register of controlled trials databases.

Where do I start?

You first have to realize that there is NO SUCH THING as a "JW understanding of the Scriptures in this regard"... In fact, most JWs just blindly follow whatever illogical Bible text "interpretations" come from Brooklyn... plain and simple.

And when it comes to "abstaining from blood", these Brooklyn whack jobs have clearly over-interpreted certain Bible texts and now find themselves back-peddling because of they've "gone beyond what is written" to the point of causing unnecessary deaths (not to mention financially burdensome litigation).

That being said, I think MOST people (JW or not) prefer NOT to have transfusions... except most people wouldn't risk the lives of their loved ones over some arbitrary Bible interpretation by people that haven't even met in person...

well apparently, the english-to-spanish translator (who wrote the spanish version of the 2013 special talk outline) apparently realized that the use of the word "nanotechnology" in this outline was completely irrelevant and childish... so he simply substituted the word "nanotechnology" with the phrase "great scientific advancements".

Wha happened... you make very valid points... on the other hand, it's 2013 and the word nanotechnology is pretty widely known all over the globe... So I really don't see any cultural constraints in simply using "nanotecnologia" as it would have been just as irrelevant and ridiculous in Spanish as it is in English...

The Redeemer... Remember when Steve hit Selma in the English version WT but only got "furious" with her in the Spanish version? Yeah... there really are major differences sometimes...

You cannot live forever in paradise on earth

the watchtower society has, for about seven decades, been attracting new volunteer workers for its field ministry with the promise of life forever on a paradise earth.

even the titles of its main study books since 1968 bear the promise: the truth that leads to eternal life, you can live forever in paradise on earth, and knowledge that leads to everlasting life.

how logical is this hope that leads people to entrust the watchtower with their time, energy and worldly possessions?

Big Shake-Up Among Jehovah's Witnesses

i heard that there was a recent (january 2013) big shake up on the west coast in orange california.

i think it is a kingdom hall on taft street in orange that has a double hall.

anyway, i heard that there were 10 to 15 disfellowshiped, others given public reproof and several congregations broken up and new conregations started as a result.

let me explain a little about what i do each day...... i work for a company that arranges trusts in the cook islands, turks & caicos, panama, etc.

i know that blondie is against what i am about to say, but i do not just believe that the wts have a variety of trusts in various jurisdictions around the world......i am absolutely positive they do.. .

i personally look after 14 trusts.

They also systematically move their cash or cash equivalents between their thousands of "shell corporations" worldwide. Rarely does their cash sit in the same place for more than a few months. So even if the government decides to audit the WT, this would be a nearly impossible feat. The Watchtower Corporation had over 130 years to learn how to hide their stash. And despite claims to the contrary, they have tons of other liquid assets hidden as well. They're not going broke any time soon...

Wolf... yes... I'm fluent in English & Spanish... (also working on Portuguese and Italian but still have a long way to go...)

Lately, I've been noticing wide contrasts in translated publications (in both grammar and semantics), particularly in English-to-Spanish translations... so I thought I'd highlight the fact that this so-called "Kingdom Unity" or "unity of thought" really does not exist to the extent that the WT would like people to believe.

Incredibly, the Spanish-to-English translation of this sentence (which the WT writer could have easily used) is the following:

Despite great scientific advancements, humans cannot create life nor return it to those who have passed away.

Sometimes I think the WT writers are so bored that they find entertainment in sneaking in irrelevant or ridiculous phrases...

This reminds me of the Steve and Selma thread... remember that? Steve hit Selma in the English Watchtower but in the Spanish version he only got "furious" with Selma.

I guess the Spanish translators don't always see eye-to-eye with the English writers who write the original versions of most talk outlines, WT articles, books, etc..

So much for "kingdom unity"...

The uneducated writer who wrote this outline was apparently looking for a trendy word to insert into this incredibly boring outline... so he probably flipped through the pages of a Reader's Digest he picked up in the subway on his way back to bethel and noticed the word "nanotechnology".

But what irritates me the most in this outline is this intelligence-insulting doomsday claim in the last section:

"Now that sufficient time has elapsed for all to to see the results of disobedience to his laws, the appointed hour is fast approaching for God to correct matters on Earth."

Are you f**king kidding me? Yet another Armageddon prediction (albeit slightly vague in nature) to get the weak dubs off their asses and into Field Circus again. Will the dubs ever realize that this is really just a well-organized money-laundering scam?
